Music has become a way for me to create personal spaces for reflection, concentration, and joy. Toying with the texture of sounds and looking for mindful rhythms centers my thoughts in a way that I have trouble explaining in words. I have written and deleted a dozen sentences here trying to find apt metaphors but maybe theres no need.
I have been inspired by the simple predictability of my collection of Buddha Machines lately and have started to use my tiny OP-Z as a vessel to make my own meditative loops. Be it writing, editing, working on invoices, or paying bills at home, some of the music I toy around with becomes key to a mental space that balances the task at hand and the world at large.
The music on this little EP wasn’t made with the intention to release like this but after listening back to recordings I had of some of the loops I decided it would be fun to share a few of my favorites with others who may find solace in them as well.
Thanks to sites like Bandcamp and Youtube, and tools like the small battery powered production boxes made by Teenage Engineering, I feel like I am seeing home music creation become a commodity of self reflection in the same way photography has for many in the dawn of smart phone cameras and social networks. Music is another way to share filtered, curated perspectives of our individuality and from time to time the results can be pretty wonderful.
I’m happy you read this far, and I am happy you may toss a few dollars my way to support my perspective of time, as small is it may be in the grand scheme. If it amounts to enough I will set it aside for future ideas musical, visual, and otherwise creative that have been piling up for quite some time now.
Ah, and the title, it’s January 2020. I’m sort of considering releasing a little bit of music monthly here on Bandcamp this year because I figure if I don’t start releasing creativity in the world again in some form or another, I may loose touch with it entirely so, here’s to the next one. See you then.
